AWS re:Invent is an exciting event, jam packed with announcements. This year was no exception. Chef was excited to be among the 32,000+ AWS cloud customers and partners in attendance.
Leave it to AWS to be able to hide an 18-wheeler truck and drive it on stage during a keynote. AWS built Snowmobile to provide a secure data truck that stores up to 100 PB of data and can help customers move exabytes to AWS in a matter of weeks. It was designed to meet the needs of financial services, media and entertainment, and high performance computing customers. Clearly, AWS has proven that the cloud is a relevant platform for enterprise customers to leverage, and that they are willing to go to great lengths to satisfy any use case.
As customers are moving more data, legacy systems, and building new apps in the cloud, the ability to automate and manage infrastructure is becoming increasingly critical for organizations to be successful. During Werner Vogel’s keynote, a new service was announced: “AWS OpsWorks for Chef Automate”. This is a service that we here at Chef are very proud of. Chef Automate is now available in the AWS console as a native service! We received great feedback from attendees such as, “I never ran Chef because I didn’t want to manage my own Chef server, but now that AWS will do it for me, I’m excited.” Providing a fully managed Chef instance to customers allows them to increase IT velocity and drive real business outcomes.
Customers can try OpsWorks for Chef Automate for free by simply signing up or logging into the AWS console.
We had a sold out session with a long wait list of folks looking to learn: “What hundreds of companies show us about how to build a DevOps Culture” presented by Adam Jacob, our CTO and Cofounder. Additionally, we received some great shout outs from Amir Golan, Senior Product Manager at AWS during his session on Configuration Management in the Cloud.
From the Chef booth, our team spoke with 1000+ attendees and showed demos of our open-source projects: Habitat for application automation and InSpec for compliance automation.
Booth visitors scored t-shirts, neck pillows and laptop camera covers. If you weren’t able to attend re:Invent, be sure to look for the sessions on YouTube and try OpsWorks for Chef Automate!
