Updated Dec. 23, 2020: After receiving customer feedback on this deprecation we’ve decided to reverse our plan to remove support for the s390x architecture in Chef Infra Client. We’ve published s390x architecture packages for Chef Infra Client on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 12/15 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7/8. We have no planned date to end support for the s390x architecture and will continue to produce packages for Chef Infra Client on s390x based systems.
Today we are announcing important lifecycle dates for Chef Infra Client for Linux on the IBM s390x architecture. Builds on this architecture will be deprecated on June 30th, 2020 and support for the architecture will reach end-of-life status on December 31st, 2020.
Support for Chef Infra Client on all other processor architectures is not affected by this announcement.
The upcoming release of Chef Infra Client 16 will not be compatible with s390x architecture. There will be no builds for s390x architecture for Chef Infra Client 16. Chef Infra Client 15 will continue to support critical bug and CVE fixes for s390x architecture until the EOL date.
Effective June 30th, 2020, Chef will no longer produce scheduled releases for this platform but will continue to produce builds for critical defects and security vulnerabilities.
Effective on December 31st, 2020, Chef will cease producing new builds for the s390x architecture and will no longer support Chef Infra Client for Linux on the s390x architecture.
