Chef’s Cloud Partners Take the Stage at ChefConf 2019

Brian Turner | Posted on | ChefConf | learnchef

ChefConf 2019 is going to be a blast! And in addition to the fun you will be having with the rest of the Chef community, there will be a lot of good old-fashioned learning opportunities. I want to call specific attention to three of the workshops being delivered on Monday, May 20. I am pleased that we will have experts from Microsoft, Google, and Amazon delivering workshops.

And for those who have been in the Chef community for a while, two of the names will definitely be known to you: former Chefs and now Chef Advocates, Nathen Harvey and Jennifer Davis.

Here are the details on abstracts for the three workshops being delivered with support from these companies:

Automating Google Cloud Platform (GCP) with Chef

Nathen Harvey, Google

This workshop is an introduction to automating GCP with Chef that includes a mix of lecture and hands-on labs. Participants will be introduced to a number of different services on GCP and will use Chef to configure and manage these services. Participants will also learn about validating their infrastructure and cloud configuration with InSpec and experience deploying a Habitat-managed application on Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE).

Detect and Correct with InSpec and Chef on the AWS Platform

Mark Rambow, AWS

Colin Wood, Chef

This day-long workshop will show you how to detect potential security and compliance issues in your environment, how to quickly and safely remediate those issues, and finally how to ensure that any instance in your environments is also built according to your compliance standards.

Modern Operations on Azure – Automate and Monitor your Infrastructure

Jennifer Davis, Microsoft

Phoummala Schmitt, Microsoft

Jay Gordon, Microsoft

You’ve got a solid understanding of Chef and you want to leverage these skills on the Azure platform. In this workshop, we’ll combine a mix of lectures and collaborative hands-on labs to explain the nuances of modern operation practices from design to monitoring your application in production. Participants will apply principles and practices championed by DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering to migrate a sample application to using infrastructure as code, monitor the deployed application, troubleshoot failures, and audit their infrastructure.

In addition to the workshops, the entire Learn Chef Rally team will be on hand throughout the week to discuss all of your Chef Software learning needs.
