I was visiting with a customer last week and was asked a pretty simple question: How do I get the most out of my ChefConf experience?
With ChefConf now less than a month away this is a question that you might be asking, too. You and your employer are making an investment sending you to ChefConf and everyone wants to ensure this investment has the best impact.
The short, simple, obvious answer to the question: don’t ChefConf alone.
ChefConf is a community experience that is a mix of education, inspiration, technical advice, and reunion of friends.
Whether this is your first ChefConf or your sixth, ChefConf offers a once-a-year opportunity to gather with nearly 2,000 members of the global DevOps community. Having a buddy (or two) attending the conference with you can help make your experience more enjoyable.
As you’re planning your attendance for the DevOps conference of the year, we encourage you to register at least one representative from each of your development, operations, and leadership teams.
With an average of six sessions per hour — each day — you as an individual simply cannot take in all that ChefConf has to offer. A one person experience will lead to a one-sided perspective, or, in other words, the opposite of DevOps.
When two or three or more individuals from you organization attend together, you’ll have the advantage of consuming more relevant content to accelerate your organization’s DevOps transformation and successful usage of Chef. Not to mention, you’ll be living out the collaborative, shared experience that is core to the DevOps philosophy.
ChefConf is a great place to start building a community of Chef users and managers within your company. It can help you foster relationships with other folks in your department and from other teams. You’ll also see how collaboration is happening at other companies across the globe.
Take some time with your co-workers to review the ChefConf Agenda and come up with a plan for who will go to which talks. And be sure to leave some time for the hallway track.
Remember, there are workshops and the Community Summit on Monday, a Hack Day on Thursday, and you will have an opportunity to complete Chef certification exams Tuesday and Wednesday free of charge!
Encourage your entire team to register now. Discount pricing is available for groups – buy four conference passes and get one free!
I’ll see you, and your team, at ChefConf!
