Former Microsoft and Amazon.com Engineering Executive To Guide Opscode’s Technology Vision And Strategy During Period of Rapid Growth In Cloud Infrastructure Automation;
Company Names Adam Jacob As Chief Product Officer To Lead Customer-Driven Product Development;
SEATTLE, Wash – February 8, 2011 – Opscode™, Inc., the leader in cloud infrastructure automation, today announced that Christopher Brown has been named Opscode’s Chief Technology Officer and will guide Opscode’s long-term technical vision and strategy. Opscode today also announced that Adam Jacob, co-founder of Opscode and creator of the popular open-source Chef™ systems integration software, has been named Chief Product Officer and will dedicate his focus on customer-centric product development. These two moves will enable Opscode to further accelerate its rate of disruptive technical innovation and product delivery during a time of rapid new customer adoption and company growth. Opscode is focused on bringing next generation infrastructure automation tools to cloud and enterprise IT infrastructures via open source, SaaS, and other product offerings.

Christopher Brown had previously been serving as Opscode’s Vice President of Engineering. Prior to joining Opscode, Mr. Brown served as Director of Engineering for the Edge Computing Network for Microsoft. Before joining Microsoft, Mr. Brown was a founding member, architect and lead developer for Amazon’s Elastic Compute Cloud (“EC2”).
Mr. Brown began his career in 1993 at Microsoft and holds several patents in the areas of Internet routing, VM/runtime hosting, content delivery and cloud computing. Mr. Brown graduated from Gonzaga University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering.
Adam Jacob is a co-founder of Opscode and the creator of Chef. Prior to founding Opscode, Mr. Jacob spent 13 years as a systems administrator and founded HJK Solutions, an automated infrastructure consultancy. Including his tenure at HJK, Mr. Jacob spent 13 years as a systems administrator, systems architect, and tools developer. He has been responsible for large production infrastructures, internal corporate automation, and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance efforts.
