Bryan Barry over at the devopsanywhere blog has written a great post about Chef containing his thoughts on why you might want to start using Chef to manage your infrastructure.
Bryan’s point below especially resonated with us because it articulates the fundamental change that is taking place with Chef and the cloud:
The emergence of the cloud-computing, whether on the public cloud such as EC2 or internally with openstack, means that we systems administrators will have to manage at least 10 times more systems. We have to become 10 times more productive. We have to shift from “managing servers” to “managing configurations.” Chef is one of key tools to accomplishing this.
