It’s that time of year, the leaves are starting to change color in the northern hemisphere, kids are back at school, people who don’t have kids seem to have all gone on vacation at the same time in this “shoulder season”. We’re right around the corner from fall, Halloween, and Hacktoberfest!
What is Hacktoberfest?
It’s a “month-long celebration of open source software run by DigitalOcean and DEV”. As an open-source company, Chef would like to encourage you to hack this October with our projects!
Whether you’re a new contributor or an old hand, you can get yourself an official Hacktoberfest t-shirt by submitting 4 PRs throughout the month of October. Maybe you have an update for a Chef Habitat Core Plan. Or can you help out the Sous Chefs on some Chef Infra cookbooks? Keep an eye out for issues on our projects marked with the hacktoberfest tag for things that are easier to get started with. Join our Slack to keep in touch with other folks and our projects.
What if you have never contributed?
If you’ve never contributed to an open-source project before, we can help you get started! Check out the Learn Chef Rally module Open Source Collaboration for some tips on getting started, or the Version Control module for a refresher on GitHub. Hacktoberfest officially starts in two weeks, so get your GitHub account ready.
As always, all of Chef’s projects adhere to our Code of Conduct. We want our projects to be a place for all kinds of folks to share and collaborate in a productive way.
