Greetings fellow Habicats! Good news today – you can use the Node scaffolding to Habitize Node applications that use a database! One of my favorite resources on Node is “Express in Action” by Evan Hahn.

This week I had the honor of speaking at Microsoft Azure’s Opendev, which hosted a variety of speakers from various cool open source projects and I represented Habitat. I raced through a tour of building a distributed Java web application in Habitat.

Many of our users have requested an easy way to bootstrap and manage AWS instances across multiple accounts. In the past, this was difficult to achieve because of strict access restrictions between AWS accounts.

We have just released a new version of the Node scaffolding that supports scripts defined in package.json! It is common for Node applications to include scripts in their package.json files like so: package.

As National Cyber Security Awareness Month comes to a close, it’s a great opportunity for all of us to make security and compliance part of our daily routine. I know, I know…no one thinks about “compliance” and gets excited. However, taking advantage of tools like InSpec can help us conquer everyday compliance with ease.

Last week Chef announced Chef Automate 1.7, a notable release that integrates remote compliance scanning capabilities into Chef Automate. Now, organizations can add nodes and execute ad hoc remote compliance scans from Chef Automate without the need for an agent to be deployed on the node.

It takes a community of passionate and involved partners to fuel the love of Chef, DevOps, and automation. Automation is a big component in providing IT as a service.
