Chef InSpec defines security and compliance rules as executable code for testing and auditing applications and infrastructure. Chef InSpec compares the actual state of a system with the desired state that is expressed in easy-to-read and easy-to-write code.

October’s nearly over, and for many of us that means an evening full of cobwebs, costumes, candy, tricks, and treats as we prepare for Halloween night. It also means that today is the final day of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month!

Last year, we celebrated Chef’s 10th birthday. A lot can happen in ten years, but a lot also stays the same. One of our other projects that is nearly as old as Chef Infra itself is the Apache2 cookbook.

So, how’s your Hacktoberfest coming? Got a few PRs in for your favorite projects? Have you learned something new, or gone to a Hacktoberfest event? If not, there’s still time. And we have an added bonus, our amazing design team has put together some new stickers for our Hacktoberfest participants!

Infrastructure code, just like your infrastructure, is in constant flux. New services need to be updated and deployed, configuration changes need to be propagated, and security vulnerabilities mitigated. There’s a never-ending stream of code changes to make and once you’ve written your infrastructure code you just want it to work.

Continuous Delivery (CD) and all the other continuous things – Continuous Integration (CI), Continuous Testing, Continuous Deployment – have become the new mantra of DevOps. CI/CD adoption typically starts with agile Dev teams working on new or well-funded systems.
