Both Chef and the Chef Community are growing like crazy these days. We’ve realized many of you in the community might like knowing the folks joining our team who will be working on Chef itself, or supporting your success. As with many things, it’s better to start small.

Ohai Chefs! The new community site, Supermarket, was soft-launched in "beta" on Tuesday, June 17. When it was launched, we weren't enforcing HTTPS/SSL for the site. Yesterday, we deployed a change to enforce redirection from HTTP to HTTPS at the application level, which wound up loading a default Nginx page.

We’re pumped to be at Velocity again this year and can’t wait to be on the ground in Santa Clara next Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. We hope you’ll join us for a bunch of awesome Chef happenings, including: * We’re hosting a hack on Tuesday from 1:30pm to 5:00pm.

Earlier today, we deployed a change to force http->https redirect for Supermarket. During the deployment, the load balancer was incorrectly configured, causing Supermarket to be unavailable. At Chef, we conduct postmortem meetings for outages and issues with the site and services.

We are so excited to announce the soft-opening of Supermarket – the new Chef Community site. With a clean, responsive design and an open-source foundation, the doors have opened and are we are ready for our first visitors. The current community site will continue to be available at http://community.opscode.com during this soft-opening period.

Ohai Chefs, Two frequently discussed topics in the community have been issue tracking and the contribution workflow. JIRA has been our issue tracker for a long time and we’ve been using Github from the beginning to host the source code. Our contribution workflow have evolved around the combination of these tools.

A few months back at #ChefConf we had the opportunity to connect some very cool people for a series of “#ChefTalks: Kitchen Chats” on-site at the show. In short, we put together smart people to discuss what’s really going on in IT, from driving organizational and cultural change to skill-building to new technology.
