Ohai Chefs, We have a number of OSX users in the community (myself included) and some of you may have recently noticed issues extending Chef functionality by installing ruby gems like berkshelf, chefspec, and foodcritic which require building native extensions.

The countdown to #ChefConf continues as we spotlight the many Awesome Chefs presenting at the show, which takes place April 15-17 in San Francisco. Today we’re highlighting a presentation that focuses on something we hear a lot in association with Chef – scale.

We’re Finally Making Progress On A Better Community Site Experience Chef is awesome. Our existing community site experience…OK, but not awesome. We announced plans to revamp and open source the community site at the Community Summit in November and now were making good progress on that with Supermarket.

Ohai chefs, As you know the next major version of Ohai (7.0.0) has been in the release candidate phase for a while now. You can learn about it more in our previous blog post or in Ohai 7 Release Notes.

Here at Chef we’re working closely with Microsoft and the wider Windows Community to make Windows a first-class Chef experience. Microsoft is a big supporter of Chef and we’re continuing to add functionality and build out our joint engineering road map together.

One of the most useful extensions available to Chef cookbook authors is the ability to write and use any arbitrary Ruby code as a library. These libraries are often no more than a few lines long, but can also be as simple or as sophisticated as you want.
