Habitat’s open source framework allows you to automate your applications’ definition, builds and rebuilds, deployment and management throughout their life cycle. One of Habitat’s fundamental principles is enabling users to deploy their applications anywhere they need to be run, and to preserve this automated behavior. How do we do this on Kubernetes?

Today we’re excited to show off our Habitat Open Service Broker reference implementation. The Open Service Broker (OSB) project is an industry-wide collaboration to enable service consumption through a simple, secure, API-driven model.

April was a big month for us at Chef. During this month we released Chef 14, a friendlier easier Chef. With more than 30 new resources added, this is, by far the fastest and easiest to use, Chef version yet.

Here’s what happened in the Chef, Habitat and InSpec open-source communities over the last month. Chef The biggest news from the Chef project is that we released Chef 14, a faster and easier to use Chef.

It’s just under a month until ChefConf 2018 kicks off in Chicago! We’ve been busy putting the finishing touches on the program for the event, May 22-25 at the Hyatt Regency Chicago.

Organizations are migrating workloads to the cloud at breakneck speed, and it’s not difficult to see why. Cloud providers offer the ability to provision new environments and infrastructure on demand, allowing fleets to be scaled with unparalleled speed and efficiency. Costly and complex to maintain network and storage hardware can be replaced with vendor-managed services.

At the beginning of April we announced the release of Chef Client 14. Shortly after, I presented a live webinar: What’s new in Chef 14 and ChefDK 3. Chef offers many learning opportunities in Europe via training partners. One of these is Commandemy, an Austrian IT training provider specializing in topics like DevOps, Automation, and Configuration Management. They have a long relationship with Chef and have delivered our courses all over Europe, especially in the DACH region.

Chef and Microsoft have released an e-guide on infrastructure as code (IaC) on Azure. IaC gives you the basic structure that allows systems to replicate automatically across any number of virtual machines, cloud instances, or containers – in a matter of minutes.
